Your Instructor

Bonjour, je suis Anne! I've been teaching French for twenty years now, in various settings including public and private universities and high schools, and private tutoring and group classes. I've taught classroom French in Paris, California, Nashville, and Boston, at both high school and university institutions.

My passion for teaching French language, culture, and literature lies within my own varied experiences of traveling and living abroad. In each case it would not have been possible for me to have attained the depth of sharing, understanding and discovery of another culture and peoples, without being able to communicate with the natives of the country in their mother tongue. The better I knew the target language, the more profound and fulfilling my experiences and contacts.

Learning a language is so much more than acquiring a simple knowledge of another tongue. Of course, language acquisition offers the very practical benefits of communication with millions of other people (in the case of French, it is an official language in 33 countries, and spoken as a native tongue by 70+ million people!). Learning a language also offers greater facility and confidence when traveling, and allows one entry into different ways of thinking about the world and about cultures-- even about one's own language and culture. I strongly believe that discovering and understanding other cultures and ways of thinking contributes immensely to individual and global enrichment. With this idea in mind, and a passion for French language and culture in itself, I hope to share my knowledge with you.
